Essential Oils in Your Homeschool

I’ve recently become totally hooked on the use of essential oils. I started them last fall. At first, I thought it was a bit extreme and "out there," but I’d heard enough that I was willing to try. I bought a set of oils and a diffuser at Wal-Mart. I decided that I’d try these first, and then buy the higher quality oils if the cheaper ones helped at all.

Within a week, I was convinced! My 13-year-old son with severe anxiety issues was asking for them every day in our homeschool room. He even wanted his own diffuser in his room to help him sleep at night! Since then, I’ve signed up with doTERRA, one of the two largest, mainstream essential oil companies. Now that we’ve been using essential oils in our home for several months, I wanted to share some of our favorites with you.

  1. Peppermint. It stimulates the brain and helps with focus and concentration.

  2. Peppermint and Wild Orange. The combination of these two helps to energize you and your child at the beginning of the day.

  3. Peppermint and Rosemary is awesome for concentration and memory. The combination also helps reduce nervous tension and fatigue.

  4. Balance and Serenity are two blends that can be blended together. Combined, they easy anxious feelings, lesson tension, and provide calm and tranquility. This one has been particularly helpful for my son and one he requests almost daily.

  5. InTune is another blend. The first time I put it on my son’s arm, he told me that he was able to block out distractions within just a few minutes. Even better, I didn’t tell him beforehand what it was supposed to do! InTune gives a sense of focus to those who have trouble paying attention and staying on task.
